Paris Fashion Week S 2012: Louis Vuitton

Monday, 10 October 2011

I think you can get a pretty good idea of what I'm going to say now after this opening photo: a magnificent show signed Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton. Right now there are two people that are really capable of putting on a real show and they are Karl Lagerfeld and Marc Jacobs. For the closing day of the Paris Fashion Week and of the whole fashion week season as a matter of fact, the Louis Vuitton show managed to create that grand finale that everybody was waiting for. After last season's harsh, fetishist hotel chambermaids and old-fashioned elevators on the runway, this time the designer turned the Cour Carrée of the Louvre into a merry-go-round with young girls from a long gone era wearing pastel colored dresses and suits and tiaras on their heads. As if that wasn't enough to get you into the atmosphere, the audience was greeted at the entrance by the girl's governesses.

During the show all the models were seated on their white horses and got down one at a time to walk on the circular runway surrounding the carousel. The experience was pure magic! Asked how he came up with the concept for the show, Marc Jacobs said that he wanted a "soft, soothing, gentle, light, tender, feminine, airy, loving" look. He summed up his collection as: "a frosted sugary, sponge sugar type of feeling - like wrappers on a candy. Something very naive and simple".

This is one of those shows where it's nearly impossible to pick favorites, so I'm just going to name a few of them like the 20s inspired white dress opening the show, the pale yellow and baby blue dresses, the very structured white dress with an embroidered panel on the front, the crocodile leather jackets, Frida Gustavsson's adorable beige shorts and blouse and of course the closing dress, a magnificent ivory ostrich feather-enriched dress with a daisy pattern of broderie anglaise worn by none other than the stunning Kate Moss!

Here is my selection of the most interesting looks and accessories from the runway:

And because you've been such a great audience, here's the complete runway video:

What did you think of the show? Did this Spring/Summer 2012 fashion week season end in style? What are your favorite looks from this spectacular show?

PS: I forgot to tell you a really funny thing: I insisted on the basket-like bag for a reason - when I was little, my mom had a basket very similar to that, that we used to go shopping with! Boy, we were very fashion forward I guess!
