Last week I was proudly announcing the four finalists of Project Runway Season 9 and a few days ago we also found out who of those four was the winner: Anya Ayoung-Chee, the Caribbean designer. Facing the already famous judges Heidi Klum, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia and guest judge L'Wrenn Scott the designers presented their collections at New York Fashion Week. Among the guests were a lot of familiar faces such as actress Malin Akerman or singer and style reference Corinne Bailey Rae.
After the runway shows, the contestants were brought back to the familiar judging room, where Viktor and Kimberly were the first designers to see be Aufwiedersehen-ed. As Joshua and Anya were the last ones standing I was really confused, because as much as I loved Anya's designs, I couldn't understand what Joshua was doing there instead of Viktor. I didn't like so much Joshua's use of neoprene, bold colors and plastic inserts into his garments and I was really relieved to see Anya win. While less unconventional than Joshua, Anya won because the judges truly believe that she knows how to market herself, that she has a very well established self-image and the potential to create a very strong and diversified brand. For now all we can see from her is a beautiful collection inspired by the Caribbean, so here it is:
What's your favorite look from the bunch? My favorites would be the mini jumpsuit, the one in the third photo (yes, it's a jumper!) and the simple golden dress in the fourth photo, but the flow of the materials is so incredible, that it's hard not to like the other garments as well. Were you happy that she was the winner or would you have picked someone else rather?

I'm all over look #1 and #7! amazing colors and movement. thx for the recap...love it!
I think she deserves it! Great post! <3<3
My favorite is the first dress. However, every dress is pretty much a variation of the same theme with different prints. I'm disappointed that Viktor basically edited himself out of the win. If he had gone with his gut, it would have ended differently. I'm sure they will all be successful, though.
