What an amazing show! The first womenswear collection for Nicola Formichetti at Mugler was a highly anticipated show, not only because of Lady Gaga's debut as a runway model (although that created a lot of buzz in the media), but also because it was a way for the fashion scene to deal with the tempest that came over the Paris Fashion Week with the official firing of John Galliano from Dior. All the rumors and craziness associated with Mugler and the famous artist's debut on the runway managed to motivate people to get back in the game, let their feelings aside and enjoy a wonderful show.
Although Lady Gaga clearly stole the spotlight with her two appearances, the show was really good as a whole, the designer focused on what he's best at - outrageous form fitting designs and extravagant shapes and styling. The collection somehow reminded me of some of his creations for Lady Gaga - provocative, but in a very high fashion way. The setting of the show complemented the design esthetic - a big hall at the Gymnase Japy packed with people and a long runway lined with gothic archways.
It seems that more and more fashion houses decided to step out of the conventional exclusive feel and started streaming their shows live on the Internet - first Burberry last season, then Dolce & Gabbana a few days ago at Milan Fashion Week, now Mugler. What do you think about this initiative? Do you think it's a way of attracting more customers and creating a deeper relationship with the brand's followers or will it be detrimental in the future, leading the brand to lose its appeal to high end consumers? I personally think it was a great idea, the show was streamed live on Facebook and it not only showed the 10 minute runway show, but also all the excitement backstage, the preparation of the models and the mood in the showroom. Plus, what is even more important maybe, we got a glimpse of Anna Wintour arriving at the venue, how cool is that? I'll let you enjoy the show and I've not only added the runway video as usual, but also a backstage video of Lady Gaga ;)
