Paris Fashion Week: Alexander McQueen

Wednesday, 23 March 2011

Sarah Burton has the creativity and inovativeness to stand up to the challenge of continuing Alexander McQueen's legacy. The collection she envisioned for the Paris Fashion week was very interesting, keeping the same line of thought as all other Alexander McQueen collections. Although using the same neutal color palette as the Yves Saint Laurent collection I showed you yesterday, it brings forward a completely different point of view. The silhouettes are very well defined, but overall the shapes and materials look harsher and more severe. The natural flow of the collection from hard to soft looks was very interesting, it was almost as if the models were subjected to a gradual transformation, from warriors to something really feminine, but still conserving a hint of the harshness from the earlier stages. I really liked the studded back dress, the zipper details and the structured white dresses. The choice of jewelry with those massive chokers for the first part of the show and then in the second part nothing but the details on the dresses was very appropriate. The mix of fur in the skirts was an original touch. Here are the most intriguing looks from the runway:
