Maison Martin Margiela for H&M

Tuesday, 19 June 2012

The Swedish fashion retailer H&M announces its latest collaboration: the french fashion house Maison Martin Margiela with a women and menswear AW 2012 collection. The franco-belgian label is known for its avant-garde philosophy, which will be very interesting to see blending with H&M's ready-to-wear collections.

The two brands expressed their opinions on this collaboration and they seem to be very enthusiastic about it. A Maison Marting Margiela representative declared that they "are very happy to present MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA pieces with H&M, offering a new interpretation of our vision. The democracy of our fashion has always been at the centre of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all".

Margareta van den Bosch, Creative Advisor for H&M said that "MAISON MARTIN MAGIELA is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades. I am so excited by this collaboration which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA. This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment."

The special collection will be available in select stores around the world starting with November 15th and so far two presentation videos have been leaked:, one for the womenswear collection and one for the menswear collection:

What do you think? Are you a fan of their work?
PS: Starting tomorrow, I'll finally have time to finish sorting my photos and I'll show you all the events I took part at during the week-end!

Inspiration of the Day

Saturday, 16 June 2012

I just saw this amazing dress this morning and I knew I had to share it with you guys! I have no idea who the designer is or from which season the collection is, but I loved the simplicity of the dress, the gentle layering and the asymmetric cut. This being said, I'm off to the mountains for a vintage automobile expo at Peles Castle. I can't wait to share all my goodies with you, it's going to be a full week-end! Have a great sunny day :)

Style Profile: Justin Doss

Thursday, 14 June 2012

Today I'm going to talk to you about a man with a very well defined style and a great sense of mixing and matching: Justin Doss. The man of many hats, 26-year old Justin, has worked in the past as an associate menswear buyer for Barney's New York and since last year he was chosen to be Senior Fashion Editor of GQ. His style rests on an impressive hat collection and on his attention to the smallest details (you'll see that he even coordinated the lining of his jacket with his tortoise shell glasses in one of the photos!). The future of street style is looking very bright!

Sozopol: The Old City and The Sea

Tuesday, 12 June 2012

As I've already told you, I've been enjoying a few days of relaxation at the beach in Sozopol for the past few days. The warm sand on the beach and the clear blue water were amazing and they did so much good to me after so much time of hard work. Here are a few shots I took on the cliffs in our bay and in the old city and as a bonus for you, my outfit of the day and a glimpse into a very cute shop that sold handmade clothes and accessories!

Summer Essentials: STRAW HATS

Monday, 11 June 2012

Being at the beach here in Sozopol, summer clothes are all around me and this is what inspired me for this post! One of the most interesting accessories for summer is definitely the straw hat: it adds instant class and mystery to any outfit and it also protects you from the sun. Here are a few fun and flirty straw hat looks for you to get in the mood for summer:

The Beach: Sozopol, Bulgaria

Saturday, 9 June 2012

I'm back to travelling abroad! Today, after quite an exhausting journey, I arrived for a couple of days in Sozopol, Bulgaria on the coast of the Black Sea. What I was expecting to see was a quaint, little town, but in fact it's quite a big place! Fortunately, I'm staying in the old part of the city which is lovely: narrow cobble stones, small houses with wooden details and a breathtaking walk along the cliffs with lots and lots of restaurants from where you can enjoy the view on the sea. Once you get out of this area, the city loses its charm and becomes a rather dull and ordinary city with paved streets, cars and a few shops.

The old city, unofficially known as the Saint Tropez of Bulgaria, is definitely worth a few days stay if you limit yourself to the beach and its narrow streets. I haven't had the time to take photos today, but I'll definitely do this in the next few days to show you my side of the story! So for tonight I'll just show you a few general shots of the place:

Fashion Quote of the Day: Marc Jacobs

Friday, 8 June 2012

"I always find beauty in things that are odd and imperfect. They are much more interesting."

I don't know about you, but I love reading fashion quotes! I feel that I'm getting into the mind of the designers and I learn more about them, about what they like or what inspires them. Marc Jacobs is one of the most talented designers out there at the moment (and one of my favorites!) and I really liked the sincerity that has always characterized him. I felt really inspired by his quote. We don't have to be perfect, otherwise we're boring. When there's something slightly off, it's then that the magic happens. To go with the quote, I chose a set of photos shot by Annie Leibovitz for Vogue US January 2012 issue showcasing some of the designer's best work between 2003 and 2008 and of course the iconic Spring/Summer 2012 caroussel collection. Enjoy!

Dots Infinity: Yayoi Kusama for Louis Vuitton

Thursday, 7 June 2012

Yayoi Kusama is a very appreciated Japanese artist with a unique and unmistakable aesthetic that she has been perfectioning over the years: rythmic and repetitive, even hypnotic patterns. One of her favorite patterns to work with are dots, endless dots creating infinitely mirrored spaces. Louis Vuitton has always been supportive of great artists and after associating themselves with a retrospective of her work they felt inspired and decided to bring an homage to the artist through a collection inspired by her work - Dots Infinity. This association seems like a very natural thing to do after we've seen the brand's past collaborations with avant garde artists such as Stephen Sprouse or Takashi Murakami. The same lively colors and patterns are also present in this collection.

Marc Jacobs while talking about this special collaboration said that "It's really charming. It has the essence of the spirit of her work." The designer said that the LV monogram and Kusama's dots are "both timeless and endless". The collection will be available starting with two different dates: first of all the clothes will be launched on July 11 and then in October the leather goods will also become available.

Here are some outfits from the collection's lookbook:

Zara Women Lookbook June

Tuesday, 5 June 2012

Summer has officially begun and the Zara lookbook for June reflects the heat from outside: white is the predominant color mixed with bold shades of red, green and blue and loose cuts and light fabrics are the rule. My absolute favorite look is the zebra print dress in the opening photo. I think that the pattern is fantastic and the necklace is very interesting as well. Other items that I really love are the two leather jackets and the white-based looks. Judge for yourselves!

Inspired by: THE DENIM SHIRT

Monday, 4 June 2012

Ever since I was very young I've been dreaming of the perfect denim shirt, but I haven't found it yet... So many alternatives to choose from: different cuts, different colours, faded, not faded, loose, fitted you name it! The fact is the denim shirt is a very versatile item that you can rediscover every time you put it on. Here are a few ideas on how to wear it:

The Great British Fashion Stamp Set

Friday, 1 June 2012

The Royal Mail Service launched "The Great British Fashion Stamp Set" to honor the 10 top fashion houses in England. The list of brands includes iconic names such as Alexander McQueen, Paul Smith or Vivienne Westwood, but also less known brands for those of us that aren't British. The London-based graphic designer Johnson Banks worked together with fashion photographer Solve Sundsbo to create the illusion of movement on the stamps. They shot real live models wearing the garments and later removed the silhouettes from the photos and thus managed to give this sense of dynamics on the stamps. I think the end result looks pretty great and interesting!
