Paris Men's Fashion Week SS 2015: Louis Vuitton

Friday, 27 June 2014

Designer Kim Jones presented yesterday Louis Vuitton's Spring Summer 2015 menswear collection in a sweltering greenhouse in Paris. It felt as if he was making the audience endure the heat on purpose, so that they could empathize better with the collection. Ever since Kim Jones was appointed style director of the menswear ready-to-wear division of the French House in 2011 his collections have been all about the world traveler.

This time the designer drew his inspiration from the regal region of Rajasthan, India, but with a retro 70s twist and  Air Force and military hints. Colorful double-breasted suits and silk organza semi-sheer shirts with zig-zagging patterns seemed highly wearable for the summer heat and brought about the desired 70s vibe, while the coats featured large uniform-style pockets, epaulettes and shiny buckle belts. I really liked the reinterpretation of the flight jacket with the slightly shiny fabric and a geometric logo nodding at the brand. While I thought that the colorful polo shirts, the shorts and blouse combos and the suits and turtlenecks were interesting looks, I can't say that I'm sold on the colorful or bejeweled overalls. The more commercial option - the beige flight suit - appeals more to me.  Have a look at the most interesting looks from the runway:

Alexa Chung for Longchamp Spring 2014 Ad Campaign

Thursday, 19 June 2014

Brand: Longchamp
Season: Spring 2014
Model: Alexa Chung
Photographer: Max Vadukul
Location: St-Tropez

I started this morning thinking about showing you the latest campaign for Longchamp celebrating 20 years since the creation of their famous Le Pliage bag, but I suddenly realized that I hadn't shown you the previous Longchamp campaign that is equally beautiful. So let's start wit this one and turn those summer vibes on!

Starring British It-girl Alexa Chung, the ad campaign brings us into a full 60s mod feeling, as the model dashes through the iconic streets of St Tropez wearing mini dresses, playsuits, bags in popping colors and of course the model's signature flats. Driving around town in a convertible retro Fiat with wind-swept hair, the campaign feels like an open invitation to enjoy the summer on the French Riviera.

Commenting the decision to choose Alexa Chung as face of 2014's campaigns the brands international communications director, Marie-Sabine Leclercq, said that "For the new Escales collection - which is cheerful, colourful and bursting with energy - we needed a woman who was both chic and modern, Alexa Chung is the woman who embodies it the best. Her enchanting gaze, which is very strong and very present, gives the campaign a lot of personality. She has energy and confidence." I think this is one of the greatest compliments a model can receive, to be considered this perfect for something, to identify so strongly with the brand that they're working with. Great job Alexa!

Dior It-Lash Mascara Ad Campaign

Friday, 13 June 2014

The latest launch in the beauty area at Dior is the Dior Addict It-Lash mascara. Promising to deliver a graphic gaze and breathtaking eyelashes, its main assets are the the intuitive, rounded-tip brush and the four couture colors it comes in - soft purple, electric blue, bright pink and a classical intense back.

I already am a fan of the mascara and lipstick lines from Dior, but I haven't tried the Dior Addict collection yet. My long search for the perfect mascara fueled by ads in magazines and friends' recommendations made me try a few brands such as Maybelline, Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent, but I instantly knew I had found my match the first time that I put the Diorshow Iconic mascara on. I wonder how different the It-Lash version is and how it looks like on me. Have you tried it? I'll search the shops to get a hands-on opinion and I'll get back to you. In the meantime you can enjoy their lovely ad campaign, maybe it will spark your interest like it did mine!
