Paris Men's Fashion Week SS 2015: Louis Vuitton

Friday, 27 June 2014

Designer Kim Jones presented yesterday Louis Vuitton's Spring Summer 2015 menswear collection in a sweltering greenhouse in Paris. It felt as if he was making the audience endure the heat on purpose, so that they could empathize better with the collection. Ever since Kim Jones was appointed style director of the menswear ready-to-wear division of the French House in 2011 his collections have been all about the world traveler.

This time the designer drew his inspiration from the regal region of Rajasthan, India, but with a retro 70s twist and  Air Force and military hints. Colorful double-breasted suits and silk organza semi-sheer shirts with zig-zagging patterns seemed highly wearable for the summer heat and brought about the desired 70s vibe, while the coats featured large uniform-style pockets, epaulettes and shiny buckle belts. I really liked the reinterpretation of the flight jacket with the slightly shiny fabric and a geometric logo nodding at the brand. While I thought that the colorful polo shirts, the shorts and blouse combos and the suits and turtlenecks were interesting looks, I can't say that I'm sold on the colorful or bejeweled overalls. The more commercial option - the beige flight suit - appeals more to me.  Have a look at the most interesting looks from the runway:

Either a city bag, a backpack or a weekender, we are talking about Louis Vuitton here, so there definitely had to be some amazing accessories on the catwalk. Here is my selection of the most interesting ones:

Tan leather must be the perfect color for a summer bag, don't you agree? It's like healthy sun kissed ski: understated beauty. What did you think of this collection? Do you have any favorite pieces?
