Oscars 2012: Minimal Movie Posters

Tuesday, 28 February 2012

We finally know who uncle Oscar's winners are and the French silent movie "The Artist" definitely was the biggest of them all, managing to sweep away both the Best Picture and Best Actor statues with only a few words, amazing music and a fabulous dog. I felt really happy about how things turned out, because I grew up with Jean Dujardin's foolish and funny roles in Brice de Nice or OSS 117 and this was a way for me to see how much he grew as an actor. I felt really proud of him! This one's for you Jean haha!

In order to celebrate the Oscars, here is a series of minimal movie posters created by visual artist Hunter Langston for the nominees for Best Picture:

Did you already get to see any of these movies? Which one do you recommend then? I only had the chance to see Midnight in Paris and it was breathtaking! Woody Allen at his best - no wonder he got the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. I can't wait to see The Artist, I'll tell you all about it after I see it! Here's the trailer if you're as intrigued as I am:

New York Fashion Week AW 2012: Herve Leger by Max Azria

Monday, 20 February 2012

For today I chose a mix of rough leather and feminine dresses from the Herve Leger by Max Azria collection. I really liked this idea, as sometimes a dress can indeed be too feminine and with these leather harnesses and knee-length boots, the models look both tough and sexy. The color palette is mostly black, white and brown with the occasional dash of a muted red dress or of gorgeous warm brown shades on a fur vest. I really enjoyed watching this show, also because Ginta Lapina is modelling for this brand and you know how big of a fan I am! Her fringed dress with a brown harness is very cute.

Among my favorite pieces are the outfit in the first photo, the white dress with the black harness, the beige and gold dresses paired with brown harnesses, the sand-colored dress paired with black and brown harnesses on the neckline and waist and last but not least the two gowns towards the end of the show.

New York Fashion Week AW 2012: Marc Jacobs

Thursday, 16 February 2012

Marc Jacobs presented a fantastic and out of the ordinary show, like he usually does. Part Alice in Wonderland, part between-wars charm, part The Three Musketeers and part Louis the XIVth and his court, the models took us on a journey through time and fantasy. The lengths of the skirts and dresses and the wide cuts added to the mystery of the collection, while the crazy mixes of Mad Hatter fur hats with wide brims completed the silhouettes. Some of the shapes were a bit too heavy for me and the layers didn't help, but I liked the concept because it was very different and original. Among my favorite looks were the black and white ensemble in the opening photo, the large fur coats, the black and grey dress, the fabulous knitwear and of course the black dresses and coats.

New York Fashion Week AW 2012: Band of Outsiders

Wednesday, 15 February 2012

For the first post about New York Fashion week I chose one of my favorite brands showing here, the fresh and inspiring Band of Outsiders collection. I really like the easy going and fun feel of their lines and patterns. Being both a women and menswear collection, I thought of it as a great transition from Men's Fashion Week to Women's Fashion Week.

Among my favorite pieces for women are the black and blue dress in the opening photo, the crisp white floor length dresses, the red trousers paired with the colorful sweater and of course the last few cocktail dresses and the smoking with a twist. Also, I'm a sucker for anything romantic these days, so I just fell in love with the three looks with the hearts pattern. For men, I really liked the colorful looks, the beige suits and coat, the blue vest and (strangely enough) the black overall suit. However, I must say that I didn't find the idea of pairing almost every single menswear look with boots as very inspiring, I would have liked to see some of the looks with shoes instead of those chunky mid-calf length boots.

Here are my picks of the most interesting looks from the runway:

Apres ski bars in St Anton

Friday, 3 February 2012

Tonight I found a better Internet connection, so I'll also show you one of the best apres ski bars in St Anton: the Underground! Run by a really great Australian or English woman with fiery red hair and with an 100% British staff, the Underground is the place to be if you enjoy good live music in an intimate wooden setting. There are a lot of different musicians performing throughout the afternoon. First you start off with a Caribbean guitarist - a new addition to the group - playing anything from the Beatles to Oasis in a reggae interpretation (not weird at all, trust me!) and around 5.30 you go on with classics like Sweet Caroline, The Joker and even Hey Ya played this time by Charlie - who is also a ski instructor during the day - and a young guy whose name I didn't catch so far, but who sings like a god! Unfortunately my video can't be uploaded because of the poor Internet speed, so I'll show you a video I found online of the bar. When I get home I'll upload you my own videos of the place ;)

And here's the video:

What do you think of my little gem from the ski piste? Is it worth it?

Skiing in St Anton

Good morning my sweet readers! I have neglected you a bit because during the last week I've been skiing in Austria, in the best ski resort there is: Sankt Anton am Arlberg. Full of fun, English people, apres ski bars on the slopes, live music and skiers coming down the slopes when it's already dark outside! I'm getting ready for a new ski day at -20 degrees (ouch!), so I'll leave you for now with a few photos of my crazy weather:

Have a great day wherever you are and don't worry, I'll check every one of your comments and answer as soon as I get back!
