Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week SS 2013: Valentino

Thursday, 31 January 2013

The Haute Couture Fashion Week was the main event of the past week. With so many beautiful shows it's difficult to pick a favorite, but in my eyes at least I'll always have a penchant for Valentino. The designer duo made up of Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli closed the series of fashion shows with a beautifully crafted collection and transported us into a fantastic garden. During the fittings, Maria Grazia Chiuri described the collection as a dream, "We really wanted to create a dream, something really fantastic, magic, fairy tale. Couture is a fream, and we love to dream. Why not?".

Why not start from the inspiration of secret gardens with mazes, mosaics and romantic flowers then? It sounds like a perfect match for the flowy and ethereal floor length gowns that are the Valentino trademark. In my opinion one of the most interesting details of the collection could be found on the opening look (the red and nude colored gown below). The raised decorative pattern on the fabric suggested elaborate wrought-iron gates as if marking the entrance into this fantastic secret garden. Tulle, chiffon, lace and embroidery were the main fabrics used to give the onlookers a feeling of the delicate flowers and birds. The finale of the show was spectacular with the scattered models walking very fast giving an illusion of exotic birds or flower fairies in flight. Enjoy the show!

Paris Men's Fashion Week AW 2013: Hermès

Monday, 21 January 2013

The Paris Men's shows were a delight to watch as some of the best Houses presented their views on the next autumn/winter trends. As I expected, Hermès had a beautiful and very classic collection with form fitting suits, skinny lapels, lush sweaters and coats. The color palette was mostly sober made up of shades of grey, black and dark blue, with some occasional pops of color in tones of burgundy, white, red, fuchsia or yellow. Some of my favorite pieces include the look in the opening photo, the dark blue coat and the yellow an grey turtleneck. Have a look for yourselves!

Milan Men's Fashion Week AW 2013: Burberry Prorsum

Sunday, 13 January 2013

Milan Men's Fashion Week started yesterday with a bang: Christopher Bailey's collection for Burberry Prorsum! Using the fashion house's military tradition and mixing it with bold animal prints and surprising colors, the designer presented us with an innovative collection focusing on outerwear - from the classic trench, to duffel and bomber coats. The color palette was was pretty much the classic Burberry - camel, bone, olive, navy and black, with touches of deep red and dark royal purple. Animal print completed the scenario adding a more playful, fashion forward look to the scene. There were even some glasses dotted with leopard spots!

Who could better describe this collection that the designer himself: "I liked the idea of celebrating things that are familiar, classic, the kind of classic Burberry , classic menswear, but I wanted to be playful as well.", thus the recurring military accents and heart motifs. Have a look for yourselves!

For today I chose a very inspiring and powerful editorial featuring an impressive woman - Angelina Jolie. The New York based photographer Alexei Hay shot these stunning black and white portraits of Angelina posing carefree and making goofy faces in front of the camera. She is surrounded by his photographic equipment. and the setting is very cosy, as if inviting the viewer into the studio of the artist.

DIY: Pom-Pom Sleeved Sweater

Tuesday, 8 January 2013

I've been quite inspired by DIY projects lately and I thought I should share my inspiration with you guys! On today's list: how to give a more fun side to a plain old sweater. One of the easiest DIYs that I've seen, it only requires a needle, some thread, cotton balls and of course some inspiration for the pattern in which you want to apply the pom-poms on the sleeves. Enjoy!

Last year saw the emergence of a new it-model: Cara Delevigne. A charming person as well as a killer face, Cara is like a breath of fresh air both on set and in photos. How else could you explain owning a monkey suit? These beauty shots capture her essence and show off her amazing bone structure in a minimalist way, focusing on her lips and trademark eyebrows.
