Valentino bought by Qatari Royal Family

Tuesday, 17 July 2012

The Iconic Italian Fashion House Valentino is the latest Italian luxury brand that has been bought by a foreign investor, after Cerutti and Gianfranco Ferre. The Qatari royal family, who also owns the British luxury department store Harrod's, supposedly acquired Valentino for about 700 million euros, although financial or ownership details have not been made official by the brand.

What do you think about this constant estrangement of iconic brands from their founders or country of origin? Do you think that it could damage the brand in the long term? Do you think that there could be a change in the brand's direction and style following this change in ownership? I sure hope not, the current designers are brilliant and I really love their vision, it would be a shame to change something at this point.

Whatttt-i'm sure they had their reason for selling but to a foreign investor, it could do some damage to the brand. Love the red dress though

NON!! Super interesting. Well re your question, I guess it depends what is their strategy.. do they want to leave full control to the house or change things... Now cash flow could also mean a great opportunity to do bigger things, develop, etc too. Time will tell I guess

Love Valentino, and as long as the brand keeps some sort of iconic look or vision to what they produce, change would be good too :) Just followed you on GFC, hopefully you can stop by my blog and follow back if you like it <3

Very interesting! I think some brands can be damaged if they are not careful about the integration, but being bought by another country's entity can help incorporate some new and unique elements into the classic design of the brand so it will be interesting to see what happens to Valentino!

i didn't know that they owned Harrods too..isn't Harrods one of the most 'london' things about london, why would they allow themselves to be purchased by foreign investors? same with valentino, but i suppose business is business!

It will be interesting to wait and see what happens with this. I was shocked when I heard the news.

I've heard about the brand a few days ago.
Of course I believe that when a company gets sold, its direction may change, and the new ownership may damage the name of the brand. Let's hope it won't happen, cause Valentino has many nice designs.

I heard about this few days ago. I really hope that the owner will not destroy the name/fame/history of the label.

Have an amazing weekend!
Love.
